Historic Fort Pierce, Florida
 
Fort Pierce, also spelled Ft. Pierce, is a city in St. Lucie County, Florida.   It is known as the Sunrise City, sister to San Fancisco, California, the Sunset City. 
 As of 2008, the population recorded by the US Census bureau is 41,000.  It is the county seat of St. Lucie County.
Fort Pierce was the original home of the U.S. Navy SEALs during WW II and today is home to the Navy UDT-SEAL Museum.  If horticulture is your passion, visit the beautiful Heathcote Botanical Gardens.  The art afficianato will be at home at the A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery featuring work of local St. Lucie County artists such as "The Highwaymen".   Take an Eco-Tour at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution or hang out with the manatees at the Manatee Observation Center.
Historic Downtown Fort Pierce is home to the popular "Friday Fest" and the weekly "Farmer's Market" located along the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway.
If you're a follower of the Arts, check out the schedule of shows at the newly restored, historic Sunrise Theater.  The Sunrise boasts well known musical artists, as well as Broadway plays, including an annual performance of the Nutcracker Suite Ballet.
